Metal prep is a mild acid normally used for wiping down bare sheet metal prior to primer paint. For the home hobbyist, it can be used to etch off rust from nuts and bolts. For preparation of your gas tank for coating, clean out all the old gas/varnish with lacquer thinner and then pour in a quart or two of Metal Prep, let soak for two hours and drain out. Must be neutralized with water.
